Pelican Waters QLD - Street Names
La Rita Court

The La Rita was the boat that plied the waters between Brisbane and Caloundra in the early years of the 20th century.

On one trip in 1905 it brought to Caloundra the furniture for Caloundra’s first hotel, Hotel Francis, as well as one of the area’s prominent early settlers, Tom Maloney.

The boat also carried freight back down to Brisbane, including Maloney’s “Lighthouse Brand” canned fish between 1906 and 1910.

The ship was sold in 1927.

Hotel Francis
D. Rooke first opened the Hotel Francis in Caloundra in 1906.
Its license was transferred to the Hotel Caloundra in the late 1950s.
In 1916, the hotel was modernised.
It was later a private home.
